Robertson is internationally known for its excellent wines and champion thoroughbred horses, but that is just a glimpse of what the area has to offer. Attractions and activities include hiking trails, riverboat trips, mountain biking, olive and beer tastings, as well as game drives.
Robertson has developed into a tourism, golf and wedding destination. It is close enough to Cape Town to offer a quick escape for annual wine festivals such as Hands-on-Harvest and Wine on the River, while the area also offers peace and quiet on any weekend for those who need a break from city traffic and crowded streets.
If your trip is too short to include visits to different wineries in the Breede River Valley, you can pop into La Verne Wine Boutique for wines at cellar prices. You can also order online, and simply collect when you arrive.
Sheilam Nursery is internationally known for its display, cultivation and export of cacti and succulents. Garden tours can be arranged on request.
Owl’s Rest Olive and Lavender Farm offers farm tours, olive tastings, and a coffee garden. Visitors get a behind-the-scenes look at the working farm and production area, where essential oils are extracted and distilled.
